At Ravenscote we are committed to providing our pupils with 2 hours of high quality PE each week. Within each year group units of study include: Athletics, Invasion Games, Net & Wall Games, Striking & Fielding Games, Gymnastics, Dance and Outdoor pursuits.
School swimming lessons take place for 30 weeks in the summer term for year 3 and continuing into the autumn and spring terms for year 4. Lessons take place on Wednesday mornings for 30 minutes at the Arena Camberley. The aim is to provide a fun water based alternative physical activity while developing water confidence, stroke technique and an understanding of water safety.
As a school we value the importance of a healthy active lifestyle and have in place a comprehensive programme of Out of School Hours Sports Clubs led by Ravenscote staff and outside sports agency providers. This complemented by an inter house Level 1 and inter school level 2 competition calendar with some events leading to county finals – Level 3 Competitions. For Further information regarding School Sports Competitions visit the Sainsbury’s School Games website.
Please see our current sporting Calendar and Club opportunities on offer at Ravenscote. We are looking to build upon these throughout the year and will update this information regularly.
Sports Premium Funding
The government is providing additional funding of £150 million per annum for academic years 2013 to 2020 to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school headteachers.
This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.
Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
Ravenscote Junior School PE and School Sport (PESS) Premium Funding
As a school we carry out an annual PESS audit to identify areas to utilise the annual funding and improve the quality of PESS provision. This year we will be providing further CPD for teaching staff; embedding our Level 1, 2 & 3 competition programme; developing the current PE curriculum; building cross curricular links with PE; providing extensive sports club opportunities for pupils and working with PESS partners to deliver our School Sports Week.
