Headteacher - Staff Governor

SEND Governor

I was born in Surrey and have lived within 10 miles of Ravenscote my whole life - apart from when I studied at Canterbury Christ Church University in Kent for 3 years. Outside of education, my passions include skiing, football and cheerleading. I knew I wanted to be a teacher from the age of 14 when I carried out my first work experience in the primary school that I had once attended. Straight out of school at 18, I chose to study Primary Education with a specialism in Mathematics (a subject I am particularly enthusiastic about). Upon completing my degree in 2010 and achieving QTS,  I applied to teach at Ravenscote as a newly qualified teacher and have valued teaching here ever since. I love being a part of the Ravenscote community and am passionate to continue raising the standards of education for our children. Being a Governor adds an additional dimension for me to continue to have impact on the effective teaching of our pupils.

Executive Headteacher - Staff Governor

I was born in Hertfordshire and moved to Camberley in the mid 1980s. I studied at the University of the West of England, where I taught in a range of schools in the West Country, as well as teaching in Barcelona for a while. I have been teaching within the local area for the past 19 years. My first headship was in Basingstoke and I have been Headteacher of Ravenscote since January 2009. I am a Southampton Football Fan, as well as a rugby supporter. As Headteacher I attend all Governing Body meetings. I am passionate about working with children and believe we play a key role in fostering the hopes and dreams of our learners.

Associate Governor

Being an Army child, I don’t particularly hail from anywhere and spent my childhood moving between Germany and the UK. I studied Agriculture & Animal/Equine Sciences at Writtle Agricultural College in Essex and although I tried a myriad of different careers (gardening, riding instructor, grave digger…!) it was only ever the Army for me. I commissioned from Sandhurst in 1998 into the Royal Logistic Corps. I have been privileged to have had an amazing, diverse and challenging career which has taken me around the world including operational tours to the Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Iraq and the Falkland Islands. My most rewarding roles have been in the training environment, particularly working with young soldiers. I have had considerable experience dealing with vulnerable young adults with significant educational challenges, hence my passion for education.

In my spare time I teach horse riding to children at Sandhurst and I am an adult instructor for the Sandhurst and District Corps of Drums (a civilian youth band). I have two young boys, both of whom have had educational challenges. Being a Governor is my way of paying back the amazing work the schools and the teachers do for our children.

Vice Chair and Pupil Premium Governor

I was born in Chertsey, Surrey and grew up in Windlesham. As a child I had always wanted to be a teacher, so followed my passion and studied Education and Psychology at Cardiff University and went on to Oxford to complete my PGCE.

I taught in Guildford, Camberley and Bagshot for over 10 years in both state and independent schools before having my 2 children who now attend Ravenscote.  I now work on a 1-1 basis teaching children, which I thoroughly enjoy.

I have been a very active member of the PTA in the schools my children have attended and enjoyed organising numerous events to help raise funds so the school can provide the children with extra opportunities and facilities.  I am now looking forward to working alongside the Governors and supporting this outstanding school in a different capacity

David Holloway

Associate Governor

I was born in Reading but spent most of my childhood in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.  Growing up, my mum taught in the local primary school and education was a big part of family life.

After studying engineering at the University of Birmingham (where I was also lucky enough to meet my wife), I trained as a chartered accountant.  I moved to Camberley in 2005, and my wife and I bought our current house in Frimley in 2012.  I work within the finance team at BMW Group (now based in Farnborough); between 2014 and 2018 I took a job at BMW in Munich and we made the decision as a family to relocate to Germany with our two young boys.

We returned back to the UK in summer 2018, since which time both of our children have attended Ravenscote Junior School.  Having experienced the education system in Germany, I am keen to be involved in our children’s’ education in the UK and am passionate about supporting our local school.  My accountancy background means that I am the lead governor for business & finance topics.

Declaration of interest:  Two children at Ravenscote (one in year 4 and the other in year 6).

SERINA WHEELER - YEAR 4 lead - english co-ordinator

Trust Governor

I was born in Frimley and have lived in Camberley my entire life. I attended local schools throughout my childhood and completed my BA degree in Education alongside working as a teaching assistant in a Berkshire school for 3 years. Following this, in 2014 I completed my teacher training in Surrey and this involved teaching at Ravenscote for a short while. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the school so I immediately applied for a teaching position! I joined Ravenscote in 2015 as a class teacher and I absolutely love working in such a wonderful community! I joined the Governing Body in November 2017 to enable me to have a greater impact on the education of our pupils.

ANGELA MCTERNAN

Trust Governor

Safeguarding Governor

I was born in Ruislip, moved to Frimley in 2001 and am a married mum of two boys.  I work as a Personal Assistant to the Group Design Director for the Glen Dimplex Group, and have been in this role for many years.  I currently work three days per week, which allows me the time and flexibility to support my children throughout their education.

My eldest attends Ravenscote School and is in Year 4, and my youngest is at Prior Heath and will hopefully join Ravenscote in September 2019.  Since being a parent at this school, I have thoroughly enjoyed helping and supporting the school at the various PTA organised events; I can always be relied upon to lend a hand if required!

I am delighted to be appointed as a Trust Governor and see the role as an opportunity to be part of a team who collectively have a huge impact on our children’s lives.  I believe, that with the help, support and commitment from us all, this will ensure that the school will continue to “Engage, Enrich and Excel”, and maintain it’s outstanding reputation within the community it serves.

EMILY GIBSON

Trust Governor

Chair of Governors

Although I was born in Frimley, I have lived all over the South of England, returning to Camberley a few years before my first child was born.

I started my career in restaurant management, but have worked within Human Resources now for 14 years and recently launched my own HR consultancy business which has given me the perfect work-life balance. I studied for my professional qualifications at Farnborough College of Technology and I am a Chartered member of the CIPD.

With my eldest currently in year 6 at Ravenscote and my youngest two approaching school age, I have a keen interest in securing a positive experience for them all. We have had a wonderful journey through primary education in the area so far and I am honoured to be a part of ensuring that this continues.

My whole family have thoroughly enjoyed all of our experience of Ravenscote to date and I look forward to learning more about how the school operates from the inside, whilst helping to maintain the high standards for which it has become renowned.

PREEYA BECZEK

Trust Governor

I grew up in Leicester and have lived in Frimley for over 10 years. I studied at the University of Surrey for my BSC Hons in Chemistry and Management and MSC in Environmental Strategy. I am married, have two girls and we enjoy spending time as a family. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, baking, shopping, travelling and meeting new people through work and social settings.

I am delighted to be an Associate Governor at Ravenscote School and offer my skills to such a well renowned school. To be able to help in education is a real privilege. Children are a very important part of society, so the environment in which they learn, is key.

I run my own business. My job requires me to apply strict regulations but also pragmatism and logic to everything I do for my clients and teams. Through this I have learnt that being organised and efficient is key. However, relationships, awareness of our surroundings and the environment in which we work and play, are equally important. I would like to share these skills and provide that balanced approach by helping and supporting the school in a way that adds value so that it can remain an outstanding school.
