Writing

At Ravenscote Junior School, we love writing! Through carefully planned English units, our children develop into thoughtful readers and creative writers.

Each year group teaches a range of exciting and engaging topics which cover fiction, non-fiction and poetry. These units are often linked to high-quality texts, short videos or writing for a real-life purpose. Some of our lessons consist of experience days or 'hook days' which unlock the children's creativity. We tailor our planning carefully to suit the needs of the children and they will be taught a range of grammar, sentence structure, word/vocabulary building and spelling skills and how to apply this to their writing.

Closely linked to reading, we use a writing rainbow within our lessons which enables children to write through the reader's eye. The writing and reading rainbows are split into three tiers, each exploring a different element of reading and writing.
