Fundraising heart and soul in aid of a great cause.
At Ravenscote Junior School, the children have been raising money for Harry and Ed’s Aspiration Raising Trust, also known as the HEART foundation.
This charity was chosen by a group of pupils, who decided they had to do something to support them, and knew the whole school would also want to help.
The school worked together to fundraise for the charity during their Christmas fayre, running and participating in stalls such as the deck of luck, knock Santa off the chimney and the incredibly popular – amongst teachers as well as children – Just Dance.
To get the wider community involved, the children delivered a speech to the parents of every year group at the beginning of their Christmas plays to ask for donations for this cause.
Altogether, they raised a fantastic £1,964.95.
Harry and Ed’s Aspiration Raising Trust (HEART) is a relatively small local charity that was founded in November 2014.
The charity commemorates the short lives of twin brothers Harry and Edward Barker, who died within six weeks of each other in November 2013 and January 2014.
The aim of the charity is to raise the aspirations of children and young people by opening their eyes to a range of experiences and opportunities which might not otherwise be available to them.
HEART works with local schools to identify individuals and groups of children and young people who could benefit from the charity’s support.
Projects currently or recently funded by HEART include: one-to-one tuition for children struggling to read, swimming lessons and piano lessons to name but a few.
The charity does not employ any staff and every penny raised is used to support children and young people and improve their life chances. See www.heartcharity.org.uk
